We offer several opportunities for getting together with
those who share similar interests, family settings, age and
place in life. Please browse through this list to learn more
about some of the Small Group Ministries and activities we
offer and how you can get involved in our ministry life. Know
that you are welcome to join us during these times of fellowship
and learning.
We minister to all, not just our members! |

CHILDREN - Newborn – 5th Grade |
Pre-School Program
The Creative Learning
Center Preschool has
been housed in Prince of Peace for over 35 years. It is a structured
early childhood program for ages 3-5. The Preschool offers
age appropriate developmental activities and hands-on learning
experiences in a loving, Christian atmosphere. |
Nursery
Prince of Peace encourages family worship, but we are
also aware that there are times when the worship center isn’t
the best place to be with a wiggly or unsettled child. A nursery
is available for use anytime during our services. The nursery
is wired with sound so you can still participate in worship. |
Cradle Roll
The Cradle Roll is one way our church ministers
to our youngest members and their families. The parents of
newborns receive quarterly newsletters for the first three
years of the child’s life. |
Sunday Church School
We offer classes for ages three to adult, which
meet each Sunday from September through May. Special highlights
include Rally Day (Sunday School kick off event), the Christmas
Program in December and Vacation Bible School in the summer. |
Vacation Bible School
Each summer we offer a fun VBS for children
ages 3 through 6th grade. In the past few years, our Vacation
Bible School has been combined with several other Freeport congregations
(Lutheran and other denominations).
Combining this event with other congregations gives us
the unique opportunity to provide a diverse and rich atmosphere
of learning,
socializing and teaching of God's Word. |

YOUTH MINISTRY - 6th – 12th Grades |
Confirmation Classes
Grades 6-8 receive basic confirmation
instruction during the Sunday School hour. |
Confirmation Camp – LOMC
Each year the seventh graders attend
a week-long retreat at Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center in Oregon. |
Weekly Teen Forums
Each Sunday during the school year, high
school youth are encouraged to attend forums led by adults
where daily life issues are discussed. |
Youth Group Service Projects
Often the youth participate
in service projects. Past events have been clean up days at
parks, staffing the local homeless shelter, and delivering
meals to shut-ins. |
Other Youth Activities and Events
The Youth Group has opportunities to participate in several events
throughout the year such as Synod Youth Gatherings, Leadership
Lab, and College Visits. They host events for fund raisers
such as Italian Suppers and Easter Breakfasts, as well as do
other “just for fun” activities such as lock-ins,
ski trips, bowling, and movie nights. Occasionally there is
a youth led service where the youth prepare and participate
in the worship service. |

ADULTS |
Adopt-a-Highway Program
As stewards of God’s creation, Prince of Peace is ‘parent’ to
a mile of Illinois Route 26 south of Freeport. We serve the
community and God’s creation by picking up litter four
times each year. |
Adult Forum
Each Sunday during the Sunday School year, an opportunity
for adults to gather for bible-based study is provided. The
hour is typically led by a fellow member and occasionally outside
speakers are highlighted. |
The Book Club
This casual group gets together to discuss
assigned books and enjoy fellowship. Schedules and book assignments
are posted in the Herald of Peace newsletter. |
Brown Bag Bible Studies

those participating are required to purchase study materials. |

our Choirs. Choir practices are typically Thursday nights

each month at 7:30 a.m. for coffee and fellowship. |
Mug the Staff Coffee Hour
Come for coffee each Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. In
an effort to save on disposable cups, we ask that you bring
your own mug.
It is a casual time for fellowship and sharing. |
Out to Lunch Group
This group, usually ten to twenty people, meets for lunch
at various area restaurants at noon on the second Monday of
each month. |
Peace Pedalers
This social group meets during the bicycle riding season,
going on numerous short and day-long rides to and from a variety
of locations. |
Peace Riders
This social group meets during the motorcycle season, going
on numerous day trips to a variety of locations. Typically
the group leaves from the church parking lot Sunday mornings
following first service and returning that evening. |
Small Group Suppers
A casual, come-as-you-are, small group program for adults
who gather together monthly for supper in different locations
(typically someone’s home) during the fall and winter
months. |
Weight Management Support Group

group meets to offer support to those who are looking to lose
weight through setting attainable goals while living prayerfully. |
Women’s Breakfast
Breakfast isn’t just for the men! The women take their
turn at The Red Apple on the second Friday each month at 7:30
a.m. |
Women of the ELCA (WELCA)
WELCA is for all women of Prince of Peace. There are several
opportunities for fellowship and Bible study through our two
sub-groups, The Seekers and After Hours.
The women partake in many activities throughout the year as
well as host events for our members. The Seekers meet
the second Wednesday of each month at 9:45 a.m. at the church. After
hours group meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each
month. Meeting
location for the After Hours group varies from month to month. |
